Spoon Bending 101 with the Monroe Institute

January 2024

In January 2024, I took an online Spoon Bending 101 course from the Monroe Institute. The course consisted of PowerPoint slides, as well as 4 audio tracks produced by the Monroe Institute. The course alternated between presentation/discussion, and the aforementioned audio tracks. By the end of the program, approximately 24 of the 28 participants had succeeded in bending their silverware. I am pleased to say that I was the second person who got their silverware to bend! All participants brought their own silverware to the class, and many different countries from around the world were represented.

Getting the silverware to bend was a fairly time intensive process, although the instructor, Luca, demonstrated that he could easily and comprehensively bend his spoon. Most of the other participants reported that their silverware bent after experiencing a surge of energy, typically coming from the heart area. This was not what I experienced, instead I experienced a slow increase in malleability, culminating in the forks dramatically bending like taffy.

One thing to note is that the forks did not “flop over,” and some small amount of force needed to be applied. Perhaps with a longer time spent with the utensils this would happen, but in any case forks that could not ordinarily be bent by hand nevertheless yielded and became malleable.

My largest accomplishment was putting an entire loop through a rather thick fork. Once the bending process (ie “taffy” stage) had ended, the forks returned to being highly resistant to pressure. Even if I try today to remove the loop, the fork will not yield. I would need a clamp/vise or other equipment to get them to bend through brute strength.

The day after the event I decided to try listening to the class tapes again and attempt to bend a very thick metal bottle opener. This attempt failed, however on a whim afterwards I attempted to bend the tines of a fork from the previous day (which had not yielded at all), and they bent easily. The other forks were likewise malleable, including untouched ones from my silverware drawer. The bending of the tines puts the prosaic “metal fatigue” theory to rest for me - I had not touched the tines all day, the day before they did not yield, and after listening to the tapes they suddenly bent

The Monroe Institute runs a longer in-person program on psychokinesis called MC Squared. There are a wider range of activities covered by this course, including:

  • Lighting bulbs with mental energy
  • Statistically influencing the roll of dice with mental energy
  • Spoon bending
  • Causing plants to grow faster than a control plant by sending love energy

I have not attended this course yet, but may in the future!
